I look forward to when I will die. But I want to do it on my terms and with a sense of having fulfilled purpose. The sad reality is most people don’t die suddenly. What will kill the vast majority of people in coming years, is already lurking in their bodies today. It is wisdom to uproot the seed of untimely death today when you can do something about it. Go for medical checkup. Know your body.
Good health is not an accident. It is an output of the interaction between societal inputs (public health infrastructure and health systems) and personal choices (health behavior).
The average Japanese (who doesn’t go to prayer mountains or daily bind the spirit of death) lives over 20 years than the average Nigerian. True, we all have an appointment with death but good health is not an accident. It is an output of the interaction between societal inputs (public health infrastructure and health systems) and personal choices (health behavior).
Components of a general health check-up will depend on age and sex. BP checks, blood tests for cells and chemistry (kidney, liver, cholesterol) are good annually with an abdominopelvic ultrasound scan. Cervical cancer & breast screening (women) and prostate cancer screening for men at appropriate ages can be the difference between surviving and dying of these common cancers.
So when last did you have a general check-up? Tag someone you love that will benefit from a reminder to do a checkup in the comments section.
Stay safe.
