#InspireMonday: God of the Weak 2

#InspireMonday with Dr Gbenga Adebayo

Happy Monday!

Last week I tried to establish that God Almighty is the God of the weak. The weak and powerless can run to Him and not be afraid of being rejected on account of their disabilities. However, I didn’t complete the picture. What happens when the weak and powerless run to God? God’s antecedent is clear:

He took a lump of clay and made it into a living soul

He took a wandering fearful nomad called Abram and made him into the father of many nations

He took a conniving con-man called Jacob and made Israel of him

He took a naive dreamer called Joseph and made him favored ruler in the land of his captivity

He took a stammering murderer called Moses and made him into a deliverer of millions

He took the small ragtag nation of former slaves called Israel and made them conquerors of kingdoms

He took a despised shepherd boy called David and made him warrior-king, slayer of giants

He took an unknown quantity called Elijah and made him a mighty prophet

He took a poor orphan girl call Esther and made her royalty of the greatest kingdom on earth

He took a boy slave called Daniel and made him a feared ruler in the land of his captivity

He took barren women and made them mothers of prophets and deliverers

He took a band of quivering men and made them apostles

He took a hateful bigot called Saul and made him the greatest apostle of them all

He came as a carpenter’s son to save the whole world!

We can further get instruction looking from this passage of scripture:

And everyone who was in distress, everyone who was in debt, and everyone who was discontented gathered to him [David]. So he became captain over them. And there were about four hundred men with him. 1 Samuel 22:2 (NKJV)

David himself was in a bit of crisis here. He was on the run and being hounded by enemies. He was in a weakened position and powerless to be all God had called him to be. The weak and the powerless also gathered themselves unto David and made him their leader. Some may call it a case of the “blind leading the blind”. But God Almighty is a specialist in turning the weak into mighty men. The God of the weak is not weak. He is mighty to save and deliver. The God of the weak turns the weak into mighty men!

These be the names of the mighty men  whom David had: ….2 Samuel 23:8 (KJV) (Emphasis mine)

Have a great week!
